John and I ventured out to South Platte today at 88th in search of the Barrows Goldeneye. We were unsuccessful, but found 3 long-tailed ducks (yes, 3) in West Gravel Lake. One female and 2 juveniles. No spectacularly plumaged adult male, but we were pleased.
Also found a Marsh Wren in the reeds/weeds next to the pier right before the green tower where the Barrows usually is. Also seen: - Green-winged Teal - N. Pintail - American Wigeon - American Coots - Bufflehead - etc etc etc Of note as well, a juvenile bald eagle flew over West Gravel Lakes as we left, so hopefully he did not cause the LT ducks to flee. Seems to be a large number of juvenile Balds this year.
