Hi COBirders,

Winds were out of the South today - so I attempted a watch for a couple of
hours after lunch. With clear skies it was hard to pick up overhead birds, but
that said, most were around eye-level or below anyhow, and were using the wind
pushing up the Dakota hogback to gain elevation. Although it seemed dead
mostly, there was a period of rapid-fire activity, for about 15 minutes around
1:30, and most of the raptors were seen in that short time.

Seen today:
Red-tailed Hawk -4 [two locals hunting - one of those "kiting" in the same area
for over 2 hours, 2 moving N)
Prairie Falcon - [either 3 (doubtful) or the same birds was making 45 minutes
circles, climbing up past me three times]
Merlin - 1
Am Kestrel - 3 - all moving N fast
Sharp-shinned Hawk (juv)
Turkey Vulture (moving N fast)
Com Raven - 4 (one circled REAL close - about 4 times around me and just over
my head, from 15 feet!)
Am Crow - 2
White-throated Swift - 2
Plus foothills regulars - Am Robin, W Scrub Jay, Steller's Jay, BB Magpie, N
Flicker, House Finch, Rock Pigeon

More tomorrow!
