My husband and I were at St. Vrain park/gravel pits across interstate east of Longmont last night:
sightings were song sparrow starling common grackle cinnamon, blue-wing, green wing teals avocet red-wing blackbird lesser scaup shoveler gadwall ring billed gull canada goose killdeer red head on the park side black capped chickadee double-crested cormorant great blue heron cinnamon teal killdeer meadowlark green wing teal canada goose unidentified quick glance at two long-billed shore birds Just before dusk I commented that the only "big" thing left pretty much were the pelicans...within 10 minutes we saw two groups of about a dozen each come in, most landing in the gravel pits, 1 in the ponds at the park. Heading back east, the osprey pair are working on their nest just east of the rookery and the rookery is full of great blue heron and what I believe to be great egret.
