Denver Field Ornithologists
May 2010 Field Trips

Saturday, May 1 Roxborough State Park
Leader: Alison Kondler, 303-904-9140. Meet leader at the Visitor Center
at 8 a.m. Trip will go to 12:00 Noon. One of the more difficult aspects of
birding is learning bird sounds. Luckily you don't have to rely on just your
auditory memory to “tune- in” to the songs and calls of birds. This 4
hour program will teach you how
to hear with your eyes. Fun techniques including, ways to observe the
bird, visual clues, diagnostic sounds, creative mnemonics, comparative ideas
and personalizing your interpretation. We'll start indoors with a fantastic
presentation, then head outdoors to listen and observe the birds on an easy
2 mile walk. Novice to expert birders
welcome! For more information, call Alison Kondler at 303-904-9140.
Must call 303-973 3959 to make a reservation. Space is Limited. No fee but
CO Parks Pass / Day Pass required.

Sunday, May 2 Dawson Butte and Columbine Open Spaces, Douglas
County
Leader: Doris Cruze, 303-798-8072. Meet leader at 0730 at the McDonald's
near Castle Rock. From I-25 South, exit at Wilcox St and turn right. Go
four blocks west to the McDonald's. Trip will explore new open spaces in
Douglas County and does include marshland on the east side. Trip will
finish about 2 p.m. so bring lunch, water and
dress for the weather.
