COBirders, I made a quick trip through Southeastern CO on Tuesday and Wednesday to check certain sites for birds I thought could be nesting. Here is what I found: * Bent County* While heading down to Toonerville on Tuesday to look for Duane Nelson's sub-adult Vermilion Flycatcher, I found a *Scissor-tailed Flycatcher*, also a sub-adult, in some trees by an old homestead about 14.5 miles south of Las Animas. The mile markers along Highway 101 begin in Las Animas, so when you pass mile post 14, start looking for the homestead on your left. If you pass mile post 15, turn around.
The *Vermilion Flycatcher* was still present on 5/25 around 2:00 PM in the exact location Duane described, alternately perching in the salt cedar and the locusts. *Baca County *I checked both Cottonwood and Carrizo Canyons for Painted Buntings; alas, the Buntings were not present at either location, leading me to believe they will not be nesting in Cottonwood this year. I also searched (probably in vain) for Hepatic Tanagers in this area. Again, no luck, although I did find a pair of *Summer Tanagers* at Carrizo that looked like they might be nesting. I spent the night at Two Buttes SWA where, for the first time in 3 visits, I did NOT find a Lesser Nighthawk*. *I first heard one singing (if you can call it that) on 5/11 and thought they might breed at this site. I also had ~100 Cliff and 0 Cave Swallows... *Pueblo County *The *Eastern Wood-Pewee* and *Blue-winged Warbler* that Brandon Percival found earlier were both present around Osprey Picnic Area this evening (5/26), though hard to relocate. I refound the Pewee after about an hour of searching at 6:15 PM, just south of the parking lot towards the river. I found at least 6 Pewees that looked like they could go either way; fortunately this one was still singing. I finally located the Blue-winged Warbler just before 8:00 PM along the bike path near the wooden bridge, to the east of the picnic area. She obviously was not singing.
