I had 8 species of finches and grosbeaks at my yard today, and "1 1/2 species" of buntings. And, I can add one additional grosbeak in the past week. Today: Black-headed Grosbeak Lazuli Bunting Indigo/Lazuli Bunting; one of those nifty male hybrids Cassin's Finch House Finch Red Crossbill Pine Siskin Lesser Goldfinch American Goldfinch Evening Grosbeak, 1 female here all day
And, in addition to the one Rose-breasted Grosbeak male that I reported on 24 May, I had two males at my feeders all day on the 25th. The hummingbird fallout I experienced on the 24th (I estimate easily 200 Broad-tails, almost all males) was over on the next day. A Lyons birder also had a fallout that day, nearly all males also. If anyone wants a copy of an article on estimating hummer numbers at feeders, contact me privately, and I will send it.
