Boulder County:
--The Pacific Loon first reported by Blatchley on July 10, was seen again on
August 5 by Griffin and Deininger and on August 8 by Komar.
--A BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER was reported by Wild in the NW corner of McIntosh
Lake on August 2.
--A White-winged Dove was reported by Gent north of McIntosh Lake on August 2.
--2 Fox Sparrows were reported by Floyd at Brainard Lake right by the road near
the first fork past the entrance station on August 1.
Conejos County:
--American Three-toed Woodpeckers were reported by Hinds at Trujillo Meadows
Campground, Camp site 38 on August 8. The campground is
on Hwy 17 between Antonito and Chama, NM.
Eagle County:
--An American Three-toed Woodpecker was reported by Dee on the Bowmans shortcut
trail off of Shrine Road above Vail Pass on August 3.
Jackson County:
--American Three-toed Woodpeckers were reported by Dunning in the Zirkel
Wilderness Area on August 3. They were hiking to Rainbow Lake and found the
woodpeckers about 150 yards up the trail from the trailhead parking.
--About 10 American Three-toed Woodpeckers were reported by Dunning at State
Forest State Park starting on the Michigan Ditch trail. This trail is accessed
from
the top of Cameron Pass by crossing to the south side of Hwy 14.
Jefferson County:
--An American Three-toed Woodpecker was reported by Lamoureux at Genessee Park
on August 5. The bird was on the second pole heading away from the picnic
shelter.
Larimer County:
--American Three-toed Woodpecker was reported by Webb on the CSU Pingree Park
Campus on July 31. Directions: Take Hwy 14 to Pingree Park Road.
--3 American Three-toed Woodpeckers were reported by Dunning in the Ramah
Wilderness on August 2. They were hiking to Twin Crater Lakes and found the
woodpeckers at the junction of the West Branch Trail and Camp Lake Trail about
2.7 miles in. This area is on the east side of Cameron Pass.
--A female MAGNIFICENT HUMMINGBIRD was reported by Kogler at Tunnel Campground
on August 6. The hummer visited their feeder for over an hour but
was not seen on morning of August 7.
Mesa County:
--A Tennessee Warbler was reported by Arnold on the Blue Heron Trail in Grand
Junction on August 7. The Blue Heron Trail is on the north side of the
Colorado River between Redlands Parkway bridge and the Broadway bridge.
Phillips County:
--A singing INCA DOVE was reported by Wild near the Haxtun high school on July
31.
Pueblo County:
--1 juv Eastern Phoebe was reported by Silverman in Scroggs Canyon, Colorado
City, .5 mile east of Crow Cutoff Road and 1 mile north of Hwy 165 on August 2.
--A singing adult male Indigo Bunting was reported by Silverman on Abbey Road,
Colorado City, .5 mile east of I-25, exit 74 on August 3.
Summit County:
--2 American Three-toed Woodpeckers (including 1 male) were reported by Bowers
on the Gore Range Trail to Boulder Lake which is north of Silverthorne on July
27.
Directions: Take Hwy 9, 7.3 miles north of Silverthorne. Turn left on Rock
Creek Road, go 3 miles to Rock Creek Trail head parking. Walk trail for .4
miles, turn right onto Gore Range trail. The birds were seen in beetle-damaged
trees to the left of the trail about 1.86 miles from parking area. Nims
reported an American Three-toed Woodpecker at Boulder Lake on July 29.
Washington County:
--1 ad LAUGHING GULL in nearly breeding plumage was reported by Wild at Prewitt
Reservoir on July 31.
The DFO field trip for Friday, August 13 will be to Gregory Canyon led by Paul
Slignsby (303-442-3728). Meet the leader at 0730 at the parking lot. Bring $3
cash to pay for parking. THis is a half day trip is lunch is optional but
bring lots of wrater and good hiking shoes. Call the leader for more detailed
directions and to register for the trip.
The DFO field trip for Saturday, August 14 will be to Cherry Creek State Park
led by Mary Cay Burger (303-771-3431). Meet the leader at 0730 at the EAST
gate. State Parks Pass required. This will be a half to 3/4 day trip; bring
extra water, snacks and insect repellent; lunch optional.
The DFO field trip for Sunday, August 15 will be to Chimney Gulch near Golden
led by Mike Foster (303-456-2647) Meet the leader at 0730 at Chimney Gulch
which is a diverse mix of plains, foothills, and mountain habitats. This half
day hike will include a 1000 foot gain in elevation. Bring water, snacks and
wear good hiking shoes. Call the leader for the exact meeting place.
