Hi,
My wife and I are visiting Colorado from Florida next week and I
wondered if I could get some advice on where to bird. We will be in
Colorado Springs (attending a wedding, etc.) August 20-22. We will
make our way yo Denver and attend the D.F.O. meeting on the 23rd.
After that we head to Estes Park for a few days to check out Rocky
Mountain NP.
I am mostly interested in finding good birding spots rather than
chasing down a maximum number of life birds. I would like the chance
to see and study western birds that rarely make it to our state.
Birds of particular interest are Western and Clark's grebes, White-
faced ibis, Baird's sandpiper, California gull, and Black-headed
grosbeak. Other birds of interest are non-Blue-headed Solitary
vireos, Dusky flycatcher, White-tailed ptarmigan, Western wood-pewee,
Three-toed woodpecker, Pygmy nuthatch, rosy-finches, Western
bluebird, and Violet-green swallow. Some of these would be life birds.
I have a copy of the Birder's Guide to CO and will be studying up on
it over the coming week.
Any help would be appreciated. I have been birding in Florida for
over 30 years and would be happy to return the favor if anyone is
coming to our state.
