Arapahoe County:
--At Cherry Creek State Park, Kilpatrick and Walbek reported an intermediate
juv LONG-TAILED JAEGER and ad and juv Sabine's Gulls on September 6.
Boulder County:
--The Pacific Loon first reported by Blatchley on July 10 at MacIntosh Lake,
was seen again on September 5 by Severs and on September 6 by Arnesen.
--An adult Sabine's Gull was reported by Severs at MacIntosh Lake on September
5 and seen again by Arnesen on September 6.
Fremont County:
--A Black-throated Gray Warbler was reported by Moss at Seep Springs on August
31. Seep Springs is west of Red Canyon Park. Red Canyon Park is 8 miles north
of Canon City on CR 9.
La Plata County:
--A Northern Waterthrush was reported by Allerton at Pastorius Reservoir on
September 5 on the east side. Directions: cross the walking bridge over the
inflow ditch and follow path to shoreline. The bird was walking along the
shore near the north end of the Cottonwood Stand.
--A Black-throated Gray Warbler and Nashville Warbler were reported by Morris
on the Animas River Trail in Durango on September 6.
Larimer County:
--A White-eyed Vireo was reported by Biggerstaff at Dixon Reservoir in Fort
Collins on August 24 and was refound by Bruening on August 28 and by DeFonso on
August 29 and by Komar on September 2.
--A Northern Waterthrush was reported by Komar at the north end of Dixon
Reservoir on September 2.
--On September 4, Hundertmark reported that White-eyed Vireo and a waterthrush
spec were heard at Dixon.
Mesa County:
--A Green Heron was reported by Korte at Ela Sanctuary on September 5. The Ela
Sanctuary is near the Connected Lakes part of the Colorado River State Park.
Moffat County:
--A Nashville Warbler was reported by Luke at Loudy-Simpson Park in Craig on
September 6.
San Juan County:
--A Great-tailed Grackle was reported by Beatty at the San Juan County Court
House in Silverton on September 6.
Washington County:
--At Prewitt Reservoir on September 3, Wild reported a CANADA WARBLER and the
following at the inlet canal: Black-throated Green Warbler, MOURNING WARBLER,
Black-and-white Warbler, Ovenbird, and PHILADELPHIA VIREO.
Weld County:
--A Northern Waterthrush was reported by Slingsby at Crow Valley on September 4.
Denver Fall Bird Count
Friday, Sept 10
Cherry Creek Reservoir: Leader: Bob Brown (303-791-6204). Meet at 0700 at
Marina, inside west gate near Cherry Creek High School. State Parks Pass
required.
Saturday, Sept 11
Waterton, downstream: Leader: High Kingery (303-641-8823). 4-5 mile hike.
Wear long pants due to unfriendly vegetation. Meet at 0630 at Audubon Nature
Center (left turn immediately after turning onto Waterton/Roxborough road and
before DOW parking lot for Waterton Canyon).
Chatfield State Park: Leader: Joey Kellner (303-978-1748) Meet at 0630 at
West (Deer Creek) entrance to park. State Parks Pass required.
Barr Lake State Park: Leader: Dick Schottler (303-278-8035) This is a
ten-mile, all day hike around the lake.
Meet at 0630 at RMBO, 14500 Lark Bunting Lane. South off Bromley Lane; from
I-76, first road east of railroad track. State Parks pass required.
Lower Bear Creek & Marston Reservoir: Leader: Bob Andrews (303-249-5220,
[email protected]). Meet at 0630 at parking lot adjacent to the Conoco
State at the NE corner of Morrison Road and C-470. We will bird Bear Creek
Lake Park and the Bear Creek Greenbelt in the morning and Marston Reservoir in
the afternoon.
Sunday, Sept 12
Barr Lake periphery: Leader: Dick Anderson (303-757-4582). This trip, mostly
driving, does not involve much walking and will be good for people with limited
mobility or stamina. Phone leader after Sept 8, or send e-mail to him at
[email protected]. Meet at 0700 at Barr Lake Entrance Station.
Castlewood Canyon State Park: Leader Kirk Huffstater (303-660-9298). Meet at
0630 at the Homestead. From CO 86, 0.5 west of Franktown, turn south on
Castlewood Canyon Road, go 2 miles to old entrace; Homestead is first parking
lot on the left. State Parks pass required.
Rocky Mountain Arsenal: Leader: Urling Kingery (303-641-8823). Call leader to
sign up; spaces available on waiting list.
