Adams County:
--A Winter Wren was banded by McBurney at the Barr Lake Banding Station on
October 3.
Arapahoe County:
--A juv Sabine's Gull was reported by Brown at Cherry Creek Reservoir in the SE
corner on October 2.
Bent County:
--2 BROWN PELICANS were reported by J. Nelson at John Martin Reservoir on
September 28. The birds were just below the southwest face of the dam.
Boulder County:
--A SPRAGUE'S PIPIT was reported by Nunes in south Boulder on September 29 and
30 and was seen again on October 2 by Guarante.
--The Pacific Loon first reported by Blatchley on July 10 at MacIntosh Lake in
Longmont, was seen as recently as September 28 by Sanders.
--Boulder Reservoir: 6 juv Sabine's Gulls were reported by Kaempfer on
September 26. Sanders reported one adult and 4-5 juv Sabine's Gulls on
September 28. Waltman reported at least 3 Sabine's Gulls on September 29.
--A White-throated Sparrow was reported by Boswell on September 28. The bird
was seen at the northern most part of the Sanitas Valley trail. The sparrow
was picking along the path that leads to the housing development.
Douglas/Jefferson Counties:
--2 juv Sabine's Gulls were reported by Kellner at Chatfield Reservoir on
October 2.
El Paso/Pueblo Counties:
--At Chico Basin Ranch on October 2, Brown reported that a hatch year male
Magnolia Warbler and an Ovenbird were banded.
Kit Carson County:
--A SEDGE WREN and Northern Cardinal were reported by Wild at Flager SWA on
October 3.
Logan County:
--An Eastern Phoebe was reported by Wild at Prewitt Reservoir on October 2.
--A SPRAGUE'S PIPIT was reported by Wild on CR 64.5 west of CR 93 on October 2.
--1 SEDGE WREN was reported by Wild at Jumbo on October 2
Logan/Sedgwick Counties:
--2 Caspian Terns were reported by Kellner on the island in the middle of Jumbo
Reservoir on October 1.
Mesa County:
--A possible RED PHALAROPE was reported by Arnold at the Redlands Pkwy S Pond
in Grand Junction on October 3.
Phillips County:
--At Haxtun City Park, Wild reported a Palm Warbler and Red-bellied Woodpecker
on October 2.
--A LE CONTE'S SPARROW was reported by Wild at Frenchman Creek SWA on October 2.
Rio Blanco County:
--7 Red-necked Grebes were reported by Dahl at Rio Blanco Lake on October 2.
Washington County:
--2 ad White-throated Sparrows (tan morph) were reported by Jones at Last
Chance on October 1. 2 White-throated Sparrows (1 imm, 1 ad)
were reported by Kellner at Last Chance on October 3.
--A Palm Warbler was reported by Wild at Prewitt in the grove by the boat ramp
on October 2.
--At Prewitt below the dam Wild reported the following on October 2: 1
SPRAGUE'S PIPIT, 1 Winter Wren,
1 SMITH'S LONGSPUR, and 1 LE CONTE'S SPARROW.
--At Prewitt inlet canal grove, an ad m Black-throated Green Warbler was
reported by Kellner on October 3.
Weld County:
--On October 1, at Crow Valley Campground, Kellner reported a Blackpoll Warbler
just past the gate at the north end and 4 White-throated Sparrows along the
south drainage inside the campground.
Yuma County:
--1 ad m Black-throated Green Warbler was reported by Wild at Bonny Reservoir
on October 3.
The DFO field trip for Saturday, October 9 will be to Bear Creek Lake Park and
possibly Red Rocks led by Mike Henwood (303-716-8551). Meet at 0830 at park
entrance for 1/2 day trip. Carpooling is a good idea (Non-residents $5 per
car). Park extra vehicles next to Conoco Station at C470 and Morrison Road.
Leftover migrants and probably Fall arrivals.
The DFO birding event for Sunday, October 10 will be The Big Sit at the Heron
Overlook at Chatfield State Park. Joey Kellner is the leader
of this (303-978-1748). (Parks pass required). Come and join Joey and other
recruits anytime after dawn. Bring chairs, breakfast, lunch, dinner, picnics,
coffee, etc. Bring binoculars, scopes, field guides, and other essential
birding equipment.
