Adams County:
--A Winter Wren was banded by McBurney at the Barr Lake Banding Station on 
October 3.  McBurney banded a second Winter Wren at Barr Lake on October 7.  
The Winter Wren banded on October 7 was reported by McBurney to still be around 
on October 8.   On October 11, McBurney banded another Winter Wren (eastern) at 
the Barr Lake Banding Station.
 
Arapahoe County:
--A juv Sabine's Gull was reported by Niyo at Cherry Creek Reservoir below the 
dam on October 9.
--An ad Red-necked Grebe, first reported by Walbek on October 7 at Cherry 
Creek, was seen by Drummond on October 13 in the NE corner by the dam wall.
--Drummond also reported a juv Sabine's Gull in the SE corner of Cherry Creek 
Reservoir on October 13.
 
Baca County:
--At Two Buttes SWA on October 8, Wild reported:  1 juv YELLOW-BELLIED 
SAPSUCKER, 1 BLUE-HEADED VIREO, 1 flyover SPRAGUE'S PIPIT, 1 BAIRD'S SPARROW, 
and 1 Swamp Sparrow
 
Bent County:
--At Tempel Grove on October 8, Erthal reported 1 BLUE-HEADED VIREO and 2 
White-throated Sparrows, an Eastern Phoebe was found by Kellner, a Nashville 
Warbler was found by Peterson, and a f Black-throated Blue Warbler was found by 
Erthal.
 
Boulder County:
--A juv Sabine's Gull was reported by Nunes in the SW corner of Baseline 
Reservoir on October 8.
--A Surf Scoter was reported by Gent at Boulder Reservoir on October 10.  It 
was in the NE quadrant.
--A Black Scoter was reported by Dan Maynard at Boulder Reservoir on October 
11.  It was in the SW quadrant.  Later on October 11, Waltman reported 3 
scoters at Boulder Reservoir, the male Black reported by Maynard and two 
additional female Black Scoters.  On October 12, Waltman reported 1 female type 
Black Scoter at Boulder Reservoir.
 
Chaffee County:
--A CRESTED CARACARA was seen at the Chalk Cliffs Fish Hatchery by workers and 
photographed by S. Thompson.  It was last seen on October 7 by R. Hancock.
--A male White-winged Crossbill was reported by Laursen on Hartenstein Lake on 
October 9.  The lake can be accessed from Denny Creek Trail off of Cottonwood 
Pass.

El Paso County:
--A "red" Fox Sparrow was reported by Bill Maynard at Chico Basin Ranch near 
the banding station on October 12.
 
Kit Carson County:
--At Flagler SWA on October 12, Leatherman reported 1 juv Eastern Phoebe and 1 
White-throated Sparrow.
  
Phillips County:
--A flyover SPRAGUE'S PIPIT was reported by Wild at Lions Fishing Pond in 
Holyoke on October 9.
--A White-throated Sparrow was reported by Wild in the northern part of Holyoke 
on October 9.
 
Prowers County:
--At Riverside Cemetery, Leatherman reported 1 f eastern Nashville Warbler on 
October 7 & 8 and 1 male first year Black-throated Green Warbler on October 8.
--At Thurston Reservoir on October 8, Leatherman reported a Harris's Sparrow 
and a White-throated Sparrow.
--Leatherman reported Red-bellied Woodpeckers at several places in Lamar on 
October 7 & 8:  Willow Creek, Willow Valley Subdivision, and the Lamar High 
School.
--At Lamar Community College Woods on October 9, Leatherman reported 
BLUE-HEADED VIREO, Nashville Warbler, Red-bellied Woodpecker, 2 Northern 
Cardinals (1m, 1f).
 
Washington County:
--At Last Chance on October 8, Drummond found a male Black-throated Blue 
Warbler.
--A Harris's Sparrow was reported by Hinds at Last Chance on October 9.
--A PACIFIC WREN was reported by Deininger at Last Chance on October 9.
--An AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER was reported by Tina Jones at Prewitt in a large 
cove west of the inlet canal on October 9.  It was near  a flock of Long-billed 
Dowitchers.
 
Weld County:
--A Lapland Longspur was reported by Lefko at CR 104 & Hwy 85 on October 9.  It 
was associating with Horned Larks.
 
Yuma County:
--A Magnolia Warbler was found by Peterson at Foster's Campground at Bonny SP 
on October 9.
--A BLUE-HEADED VIREO was found by Percival at Wagon Wheel Campground at Bonny 
SP on October 9.
--At Bonny SP 2 BAIRD'S SPARROWS were reported by Percival on October 9 & 10.
--A SPRAGUE'S PIPIT was reported by Percival at Bonny SP on October 10.
--A flyover SPRAGUE'S PIPIT was reported by Enbody at Bonny on October 13.  It 
was near the 2nd bathroom east of the north campground.

The DFO field trip for Saturday, October 16 is to Belmar Park led by Karleen 
Schofield (303-936-8661).  Meet at 0830 for 3 hour trip on easy, level paths.  
Go west off Wadsworth at Ohio St.  Drive straight ahead and turn right into 
parking lot near the lake.  
 
The DFO field trip for Sunday, October 17 is to Lair o' the Bear Open Space 
Park led by Norm Lewis (303-988-5544).  Meet at 0800 at the parking lot for 1/2 
day trip.  Bring water and snacks and dress for changeable weather.  Go 4 miles 
west of Morrison on CO 74 to park entrance on left.   
 
The next monthly meeting of Denver Field Ornithologists will be on Tuesday, 
October 19 at 7:30 pm at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science.   Scott 
Rashid will talk about Small Mountain Owls.
