We decied to go to Lathrop State Park (Martin Lake) this morning and were rewarded with excellent looks at a Lesser-black Backed Gull. We first saw the bird on the ice...where the yellow legs stood out, it was close to a California Gull, making size and color comparison easier. Later the gull was in with Hooded Mergansers, Common Mergansers, Common Goldeneyes, and 2 California Gulls. We also saw the bird in flight several times. This bird is not on the official "Checklist of Birds for Huerfano County"...so we would be interested to see if any other birders have seen one in our area.
