A snow day is a joy for school children and for Red Rocks specialties.
Soon after I arrived at the trading post at 9 AM, other hardy birders
joined the vigil. The Harris's Sparrow was the first "good" bird to
appear,
followed by other actors entering the stage - Golden-crowned Sparrow,
Curve-billed Thrasher, and two White-throated Sparrows. At about 9:50 a
swoop
of Rosy-finches descended and fed patiently, providing good looks at all
three
species. Most were Gray-crowned, with a few Brown-capped and two Black
Rosy-finches.
This is a great spot to study both male and female House Sparrows too.
