We looked around the east side of Longmont before the wind and snow came in on Wednesday. The best collection of ducks was in the gravel pond on the south side of Colorado Hwy 119 west of Weld County road 7. There were Common Goldeneyes, Buffleheads, Common and Red-breasted Mergansers, Ring-necks, Redheads, Canvasbacks, Mallards, Am. Wigeons as well as geese and coots. The slow stretches in the St. Vrain River east of the water-treatment plant had Green-winged Teal, Gadwalls, Mallards and Hooded Mergansers. The pond on the frontage road east of I25 north of Colo 119 had Red-breasted Mergansers, Ring-necks as well as coots, Ring-billed gulls and Geese. That's about all the open water we found, and no Tufted Duck. Bill and Inez Prather, Longmont
