Hello, Birders.

Waneka Lake, Boulder County, remains a good spot for gulling. This morning,
Friday, January 21st, I saw a first-cycle Lesser Black-backed Gull and a
third-cycle Thayer's Gull there. (Third-cycle Thayer's is rarely seen, in my
experience.) View from the east side of the lake, up on the dam. The birds are
quite close to you. Until late morning, the lighting is excellent. As I noted
previously, the gulls arrive just after sunrise and linger until late morning.
Anyhow, Waneka Lake presents a good opportunity for folks wishing to spend some
Q.T. with gulls...and that's the only way to learn gulls.

I haven't seen the white geese (Ross's, Snow) in a little while, but both the
Swamp Sparrow and the Gray Catbird, now joined by a noisy Brown Creeper, are
hanging on at the pile of birdseed on the west side of nearby Greenlee Preserve.
