I spent some time at Cherry Creek SP today, mainly looking at gulls. I found
an adult Mew Gull, 2 pale first cycle Thayer's Gulls and a 2nd cycle Lesser
Black-backed Gull. Bleached first cycle feathers made the Thayer's Gulls look
like Iceland Gulls, and the Herring Gulls look like Thayer's Gulls. Yesterday
at Cherry Creek, I watched the Franklins Gulls put on an aerial show in the
stiff wind. In addition to the gulls there has been several Greater
Yellowlegs, a Semipalmated Plover (yesterday only) and a relatively short
billed, Long-billed Dowitcher still in basic plumage. The dowitcher did make
several single-note, high pitched alarm calls. Pics of some of these birds can
be found at the link below. Hooray, it's April!
