The two Franktown gravel pits have a good variety of ducks right now.

Yesterday, McClain Pit had 200-300 ducks, mostly diving; 100 Scaup (Lessers ,
the ones I could ID), 50 Ring-necked Ducks, and a smattering of Common
Goldeneyes, Buffleheads, Redheads, & Canvasbacks.
The intriguing Bufflehead X Common Goldeneye continues there, though yesterday
it was quite far away.

Today, Walker Pit boasted 4 avocets, 2 Greater Yellowlegs, eight species of
ducks, a Pied-billed Grebe, and 6 Canada Geese.

Directions: McClain: from the Franktown traffic light, go west on Colo. 86,
1/4 mile and turn left on Castlewood Canyon Road (turn lane; just across Cherry
Creek); continue 1/4 mile and park in the entrance driveway to look over the
rather decrepit fence gates. Never very good views.

Walker: Continue on Colo. 86 another 1/8 mile, and left on Walker Road. Good
viewing at the turn and parking area.
