Greetings All

Today, Tracy Clark and I spent the first 5 hours of the day stomping about
Prewitt Res, Washington Co side. One of the larger ponds, at Washington County
end of dam, held an imm NEOTROPIC CORMORANT, which I managed to get some poor,
but seemingly identifiable, photos of. The bird flew off when I attempted to
get closer, finally heading towards the reservoir after circling the pond
several times.

Towards the Logan side of the handicapped parking area, but still in Washington
County, we had an EASTERN SCREECH-OWL responding to my imitation, and as we
were listening for it, a Type 5 (methinks) RED CROSSBILL (for sure) flew
towards us, directly over our heads, towards the reservoir, apparently
continuing over it. One of my least expected sightings in date and place.

Other noteworthy birds included a likely migrant MACGILLIVRAY'S WARBLER and a
GRAY CATBIRD (breeder?). We had 3 eastern WB Nuthatches, and I wonder how far
west the taxon breeds....

On the NE side of Jackson Reservoir, a GREATER ROADRUNNER was running along
side the road. The bird was on Road 5 just south of Road CC. The habitat at
that precise spot did not look great, though a short distance away some pretty
suitable habitat is present.

Also at Jackson were 170 Franklin's Gulls (good number for July?).

Good Luck and Good Birding
