Just had what i think was a juv. Rufous-crowned Sparrow in my hand. crown was solid streakschin white but throat rich brownish, thick line over eye buffy, belly white, light wing bars not too'noticable. single thin, whisker mark . line from behind curving down and around brownish, not red. some indication of streaking on brown throat but not at all distinct. a little larger than youngchipping sparrows it was with/near. Anything distinctive I should have looked for to be positive aboutid? I have never found this species in this area, and I have never seen a very young bird up close.
