Hi Cobirders. I mention that I had Thistle feeders for the first
time these two years all year. Over summer there
was a steady bunch of Lesser Goldfinches some Black-backed and some
Green-backed male L. Goldfinches.
A family of Lesser Goldfinches dominated the feeder from late Sept.
thru October.
Best bird at this feeder was a male Blackburnian Warbler on July 1.
I saw it well but it didn't stay long. Not sure
if he actually ate some thistle seed or found some bugs.
On Wed. afternoon Nov. 2nd the snow had stopped but 20 to 30 birds
were hanging out in the Choke Cherry
at 3:15PM. While I was watching there was a loud thump on the window
one of the birds tried escaping that way
and all the others scattered. Then I saw large Cooper's Hawk that had
landed at the edge of the tree. It saw
every thing was gone and flew to the back of the yard and landed on a
cable showing its back and it flipped
around showed a pale orange buff front so it was a female. Yes the
bird that hit the window survived.
