Yesterday I birded around the La Junta area to do some surveying for the
Greater Backyard Bird Count in areas poorly covered. I found what I
believe are two Harlan's Hawks at the feedlot near Rocky Ford, a location I
have previously reported here as a good spot for Harlan's. One of the
hawks looked like a dark intermediate Harlan's with features commonly seen
including some white on face and body. The other hawk was jet black, with
limited whitish lores and no other white on face, no white on body with the
exception of some white feathers on nape that appeared to be underfeathers
as they showed only when the wind blew the feathers up. I have uploaded
photos of this hawk, which I believe is a dark morph Harlan's onto my Birds
and Nature blog <http://BirdsAndNature.blogspot.com> and would appreciate
some feedback on that id.
