The participants in Denver Audubon's annual Mother's Day Breakfast with the Birds enjoyed a variety of species with us this morning, if not as many birds as the last couple of days. 25 new birds plus 2 returns from prior years:
House Wren 4 Blue-gray Gnatcatcher 2 Swainson's Thrush 1 Hermit Thrush 2 American Robin 1 return, banded 2017 (FOS) Orange-crowned Warbler 1 Virginia's Warbler 1 Yellow Warbler 1, banded 2016 Yellow-rumped Warbler, Myrtle 2 Yellow-rumped Warbler, Audubon 8 Common Yellowthroat 2 Wilson's Warbler 1 Yellow-breasted Chat 1 We are now about half-way through our banding season, and we have already banded more birds than we did total last year. It is wonderful to see the birds coming through in such high numbers! We will be open daily, WEATHER PERMITTING, through May 31, except for Memorial Day. We are opening nets at 6:30, and most days will have birds back at the station by 7:15. We aim to close by noon most days, earlier if it is very hot, very cold, or very windy. Registration is required for all weekend visitors; see the Denver Audubon website to sign up. Individuals may visit weekdays without registering before the school groups arrive, which is usually around 10 a.m. Come visit!
