I would prefer to be able to pass additional settings for meta-variable declarations by SmPL commands directly (without switching to another programming language). Can the content from an environment variable be reused for a constraint specification for example?
No. At this point, filtering using python or ocaml is really part of the way that one uses Coccinelle.
