well in unix platforms everything works more or less from the command line
- quite universal interface, da? of course there's this complete hell of
text editors, vi vs emacs vs pico etc. you have to learn cryptic multikey
sequences to be able to do some editing - well i don't think it's so bad,
but i still don't remember what is "go to the end of this line or go to
the beginning of this line" in vi [most used commands are probably dd
and x, i and esc :wq] ;) or like in emacs, if you like to do something
it's always that mysterious meta key you need (esc-x)... but actually
after using these cryptic sounding commands for a while one starts to feel
comfortable with them and it's easy to find out how much different useful
features there are (or not so useful, like doctor mode in emacs..)

still, mac wins on ui design - it's just too good. and actually it was
designed, not just thrown in, like i think is the windows case. BeOS is a
nice try make unix mac, but it doesn't work completely. not a bad
operating system though.
