Well, that is because coders are too lazy to test their scripts on
different platforms. (Or too unskilled to make them work on several
different platforms.) Of course it's bad that neither Netscape nor
Microsoft comply with the standards fully (if they did, there wouldn't
be these kind of problems), but since that's the case, one should try
harder to make their scripts work on at least 99% of platforms (if it is
possible, of course you can use features available in V4+ browsers only,
but then you'll have to make that clear). I for one, do, although I try
to keep myself from coding and stick to the UI design stuff..

CSS can result in terrible things, too, if used carelessly. And the
FONT-tag is used often because of backwards compability.
