You can set the Programs folder in Start menu read-only, after which no
apps can add their junk there.

but now Win2k is "smart" enough to let the user know about this. ;)
anyway, I'll have to admit Win2k is the best of the Windows line so far.
now that i've managed to weed out all the active desktop & helper crap.
...save one funny thing: there's one folder including one file, that
everytime i try to access it, the system crashes. the funny thing is
that the particular file is Service Pack 1 install pack... :)

i suppose they've a patent on this, as MS haven't copied it to Windows
yet?

probably along IE4 & active desktop. another funny detail: back then i
obviously chose not to install active desktop w/ IE4. having since
upgraded to IE5, you can only re-activate the Active Desktop by
uninstalling IE5 and reinstalling IE4... (this on Win95 ORS2).
anyway, Japi you made me remember all the cool bits about working w/ a
Mac... about time to get a Mac again and throw away those blood pressure
pills ;)
