Hi!
I feel quite obliged to share my experience from Potsdamer platz, I
wisited few days ago. I've been on a conference trip in Berlin. One night
I decided to do a round trip around the city. Potsdamer platz is crowded
with new buildings. It used to be empty during the DDR times, now it looks
ultramodern. There is MacDonalds at Marlene Dietricht platz and the whole
place is an entairment and shoping centre in general. I ate a burger at
that MacDonalds, it felt so corny. When I left for Alexander platz to seek
more original East Berlin I saw an old man near to U-Bahn entrance selling
all kind of old DDR related stuff (police oficer hats, communist party
symbols and matushkas). Behind him there was this ultramodern city
silhuette. That was quite a contrast, shame that I didn't have camera with
me.
