In addition to the standard message, I will use this message to break my
commit down:
**A. Circumventing support issues from google datastore**
- changes in io/gcp/datastore/ to prevent faulty imports
- changes in setup.py to make google datastore a python2-only requirement
**B. Tagging Jira issue 5627: bytes-like is required, not 'str'**
- changes in the majority of the io/ files
- updated tox.ini with working tests
**C. Some minor bugfixes (bytes/str related)**
