The last PR fixes and improvements look good to me.
It seems the last CI run for the 5.0 PR has finally [hit a failure on
{{testReplayLogic}}|https://app.circleci.com/pipelines/github/bereng/cassandra/1112/workflows/caf6d499-bf31-4ce8-8c60-32a8d3daeef3/jobs/33581/tests],
although it's not the same one mentioned in the ticket description.
