I think it's better to add a null checker in `prepareAndUpdate`
or call
```js
prepare(this);
updateMethods.update.call(this);
```
instead.
Do not use a payload because a payload typically suggests this in an action
(though not sure that this could be a common sense or just my expression) but
in fact this is a explicit call rather than triggering an action.
