Are you referring to the ACLs that use extended attributes on the file system.
Their support should be explicitly enabled in the kernel, and also supported by
the file system type, right ? If yes, doesn't this approach make the utility of
this feature much more restrictive ?
It seems like option 1 is a slightly better option in that case...
