Been around for a while (HDFS-6808) & tagged as public/stable; raises an
interesting complications w.r.t compatibility + [[email protected]]
It's used in ClientDatanodeProtocol, which makes it one of the most sensitive
things to change. Looking at the .proto & {{ReconfigurationProtocolUtils}} &
{{ReconfigurationProtocolServerSideUtils}} ; it's clearly something where the
protocol could be left alone while the data type and marshall/unmarshall code
was changed. Still pretty traumatic though
