No worries, I think we can work out a way for our users to get access to this,
even if they're running 2.7+. We prefer releases that solve users' problems to
a series that strictly follows our policy.
bq. looks like 2.9.1 would be good to target and for 2.7/2.8 releases we
provide separate patches or jars hosted somewhere.
The hope is that the 2.9.1 jar could work in 2.7 and 2.8 clusters without
modification. There should be no incompatible changes that would prevent that;
if there are, then we may treat those as bugs in 2.7/2.8. Have you tested this,
yet?
