well, the card is a kingston 4gb class 4. yesterday i downloaded a map with tangogps and meanwhile the fr went to suspend. afterwards a few directories were misisng. trying ls /media/card/Maps/om/adirectorynotthere/ gives errors (something w/ read access i think) so i decided to delete the entire /media/card/Maps folder from within the fr -- but that fails with "read-only filesystem". and indedd magically the card is mounted read only. mount /media/card -o remount,rw changes that, but next thing i know is "read only filesystem".
