I didn't save the message - and I don't know the sender, but I recall
some time back that someone on the list was trying to get some
external 400KB drives working.  The end result was a working drive and
several which went click-click-click-etc.

Having just experienced this myself, I can tell you the solution to
the clicking.  It is a dirty or bad limit switch.  If the lister in
question is still interested, I can give more specific directions as
to how to locate, identify and fix the issue ... HTH! -d
