In my experience the volume of the individual machines varies
greatly. You can't tell from the outside or from the type (se, se
fdhd, se/30) if it will be noisy. My se fdhd with a se/30 mother
board is rather quiet, but I have some compacts in my garage
(including a se/30) that are much noisier.

Why turn of the crt? Just run a screensaver (a clock maybe), your crt
will last for a long time. Anyway. I think it is not very handy to
have a server without a monitor. You may not need it much, but
sometimes you will...

There is some info on my webpage on programming compacts. You might
wanna check it out.

Not afaik.

I thought you wanted tot disable the monitor.

Personally I think the crt's of compact macs are amongst the most
pleasent monitors to look at. They are much crisper than most iMac
crt's and the cheaper pc monitors.
