Yo compacters everywhere,

Lister "Gregory Gosson" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> asks:

>Can anyone tell me the maximum amount of RAM a Mac SE/30 can handle? Can it
>handle 128MB of RAM?

Yup! However, all eight sticks of RAM must be of the low profile variety. Often, RAM
removed from the BIG Quadras is to high a profile to fit in an SE/30. From a Quadra
700, I dunno. But you gotta check it out.

Then "Tyler "Punky" Smith" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> replied here:

>No, I wouldn't bid on those. I bid on a previous auction, and won a
>set, and tried and tried to contact the seller (sunguk) to arrange
>shipping and got no response. Good thing I diddn't pay him with...

I've bought a couple of items from this seller, Sunguk, in the last year. He sells
exeactly what he describes. And he has delivered each time. But you gotta be sure what
he describes is exactly what you want. The rule at ebay and any other auction is
"caveat emptor". If you have no idea of what that means in a purchase contract, you
are advised not to even think of logging onto ebay. This fellow, Sunguk, has, at his
expense, replaced a defective drive received in one of my purchases.

"Punky" goes on:

>I know you can buy 16MB 60ns 30 pin SIMMS from www.18004memory.com
>for a reasonable price, and that they come up on ebay frequently. I
>personally don't believe that this guy actually HAS 400 16MB SIMMS
>pulled from Quadra 700s.

I agree. Check out ramseeker.com. Though you can believe that this fellow, Sunguk, has
the SIMMs salvaged from a hundred Quadra 700s. He and many other salvage shops
including our own JAG acquire fleets of old Macs by the many hundreds. On this forum,
our JAG has stated he easily assesses 15 Macs on an average day.

I note that this Sunguk auction was terminated very early with but 5 sets of RAM sold.
Listers might want to note that the body of his ad does not specify that these SIMMs
will fit in an SE/30 while the title bar of the ad does. Be aware that on ebay, many
high volume sellers often reuse their ad format frames. Looking at the picture of the
RAM offered, it appears to be tall profile RAM which may well not fit into an SE/30.
As a frequent ebay buyer, I take care to note discrepancies between the title and the
body of the ad and any supportive materials such as photos. I suspect Sunguk was made
aware of this discrepancy and responsibly pulled his ad pronto. It happens regularly.
