Since the SE and SE/30 logic boards are quite different, my guess is that 
any capacitors related to the sound circuit might have different numbers 
than C3 and C4.

Pina suggests you check for a sprung or corroded external speaker jack. 
I've seen speaker jack problems cause no sound on several 575 and 580 
all-in-one Macs. Unlike the SE, these have a front jack separate from the 
logic board.

I hear you there, as I still have my original SE which was also my first 
and only new Mac. But in my case I have replaced almost every part of the 
SE, so I've lost any attachment to the original (hardware) components.
