I think it's a cool idea. :oD johnsn -----Original Message----- From: Chris Edwards [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Friday, May 24, 2002 5:43 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: idea for compacts and a question
Hi all, I am always on the look out for ideas for using my collection of compacts. This morning I came across a very interesting article (New York Times online) about the changing way we use and store family photographs that gave me an idea. (I won't post the URL because unless you subscribe you'll be asked for a password) Here is a snippet from the article: "Mr. Baker, a 46-year-old entrepreneur, cut holes in walls throughout his house in Corona del Mar, Calif., installed monitors and used the old computers to display slide shows of the 15,000 or so digital photos he has collected. The pictures change every three seconds. The frame in the dining room generates the most conversation among family members and guests. etc etc " This got me thinking about displaying family photos in a similar but Mac way. I could put all the ancestor pix on SE30s and the more recent colour family pix on a CC - wouldn't dare consider burying these in the walls, (but I do have a 6200 that would be pretty good for burying) Anyway, here is the question; any ideas on the best way to make this work? I'm thinking of putting a few B&W compacts on a shelf at eye level and the CC on a coffee table and have them randomly display the family pix. I have three SE30s with ethernet cards, that I could connect to my home server (a beige G3 - OSX) Then, if I install Timbuktu I might be able to control them from the server. At the moment I'm thinking about making really large screensavers that would begin on startup - any suggestions as to what software would be best? or am I completely nuts? cheers, Chris Edwards http://chris-edwards.com/ -- Compact Macs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/>.
