I dare not enter the db-9 vs de-9 fracas, but if your se30 has a
rainbow-colored ribbon with a silver plastic connector hanging out the back,
and/or did some time in the school system, my bet is that it is a Power R
adapter used to drive overhead projectors, etc. There's some more info here:
