Finally, I got my SE/30 internal HD formatted !!!  Thanks to everyone 
who helped with many suggestions.  It appears that the one thing 
which was keeping the HD from being formatted was that Virtual Memory 
was on !

I tried many (about 15) HD tools, but the only one which gave me a 
clue was Drive Setup (1.5 or 1.6.1), with a message that said there 
was a file that was busy, and that I should try turning off Virtual 
Memory !  Well, after turning off Virtual Memory, restarting, the HD 
formatted in no time.

Now, to get this SE/30 connected to my DSL line !!!
