Compact macs are made of ABS = very easy to melt with cleaning stuff.
Test them on a spot that won't show.

<Another possibility comes from the plastic modeling hobby. Look for a 
<product called "Easy-Lift-Off" from a company called Floquil-Polly S 
<Color Corp. One can find it in the paint department of most 
<trains-planes-and-automobiles hobby shops. It is designed for removing 
<unwanted "coatings" from plastic models without damaging the plastic or 
<destroying the detail. I've not used it on any Apple plastics, but I've 
<used it on styrene with both commercial and home-applied coatings, 
<including water-based acrylic model paints, with great success. YMMV
