The port speed is set two twice to 4 times the modem's baud rate to allow 
for data compression and correction. If you disable the compression and 
correction protocols, you can set the port rate to be the same as the 
baud rate. If you don't disable them and try to use same port rate as the 
baud rate, your computer will freeze every so often while it catches up 
with the data it has received, but hasn't had time to process. Another 
option is to limit the connect speed of the modem by using AT commands in 
the modem initialization. Unfortunately, nearly every modem uses a 
different set of commands to do this.
