-- Hi Listers.
Right now I'm on a 20 degree list and sinking slooowly. This is a continuation of the late thread- "CRT Discharge Tool". I finally got around to working on my SE/30. I followed Mark Ginn's advice and of the two problems it had I was able to get rid of the checkerboard screen. The problem of intermittent restarts, which became very frequent restarts is still there in a worse way. Here's what happens: When I start it up cold, I get a nice clean gray screen and before any icon comes up it goes black with a brilliant white spot in the center of the display and a jittering horizontal line across the middle of the display, which if left on for a minute increases its jitters so that it looks like more than one horizontal line, but it isn't. That's as far as I can get. Not being very experienced in the ways of the compact I may be wrong in thinking that this is the same problem and not something new (that I did). After I opened the machine I removed the logic board, changed the PRAM battery, pulled the SIM and carefully cleaned around and in the socket with tuner contact cleaner and used a clean eraser to get some gunk off the contacts on the SIM. This apparently made the herringbone pattern go away. The automatic restart problem according to Larry Pina is caused by a bad filter, a 20 pin DIP, Apple part no. 115-0002. My logic board is P/N 820-0260-A. Unfortunately when I was quite young my father, Polonius admonished me: "Neither a Solderer Nor a Desolderer Be!" It was very impractical advise and therefor I do not have the skills to remove that part even if I could get a replacement. So the question is: is there another option-get a replacement logic board? Anyone know where or have one? I'll put a WTB on the Swap List. Anyone a great desolder/solder out there who has the replacement part? I live in NYC. Any ideas appreciated. The machine was working when I got it back in June or July. It rapidly started to deteriorate with auto restarts every 10 or 15 minutes to every minute. And now is probably on a permanent restart. dan_A -- Compact Macs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/>.
