You _can_ have a 575 board driving 512 x 384.  PPC upgrade 
compatibility would depend on s/w issues, but even Mac OS X will work 
at 512 x 384, even though it's completely unusable at that resolution.

But a VGA modification is very simple, and highly recommended.
