At the moment, that is true enough. I wouldn't hesitate to use an SE
analog(ue) board to revitalize an SE/30 but I would hang onto the
suspect one for repair in the future. As anyone who works on older cars
will acknowledge, common parts -- especially those that are dirt
cheap/free/under-valued -- are the most likely to become scarce because
they weren't worth keeping.

You suddenly notice that the dealer with whom you were friendly has
ceased trading and a lot of parts disappeared into landfill -- the
worst examples are when the proprietor dies and those "responsible" for
disposing of the estate have no appreciation of its merit. In 1960,
Triumph built many thousand times as many Herald 948s as Ferrari built
250s. Nowadays, if you have the money, you can buy a "new old stock"
light cluster or trim strip for the Ferrari but for not for the Triumph
Herald... It may not be too obvious in the classic Mac world yet but
any Lisa owner will have noticed the problem (except for those who can
afford Ferrari prices at Sun Remarketing).

Today, there are still a few US dealers who will sell you an SE
analogue board but it is about one tenth of the number three years ago.
The folks who offered second hand compact Mac and Mac II family parts
have updated their lists so that the entry level parts are for first
generation PowerMacs and late Quadras. In a couple of years time, there
will still be older boards for sale on eBay but they will be grottier,
heavily used and the capacitors will be cooked; if you live in the
UK/Europe like me, you'll probably end up buying dead or dodgy systems
for essential spares.

Sorry to sound depressing.
