Since overclocking the Quadra 700 I own, I went on to try it with a Classic, and a 128 having a Mac Plus motherboard.
The Classic hated it. Last night, the 128 begrudgingly allowed it. A 20Mhz. metal oscillator from a Shiva Ethernet Card, (A.U.I. and B.N.C. only), went onto the motherboard of the 128/Plus. The board-speed is at 10Mhz. instead of 8. The floppy drive won't boot or copy-to. When running an external hard drive it WILL copy some of its contents to the hard drive, but verification isn't wotking. Several known-working drives were tried. The Simple Beep went up 3/4 of an octave, as did all the internal sounds. Access time to all files and the boot-up process is noticeable faster. I'd call it a wash because it allows an external hard drive to be used and it comes across as slightly faster. My Accelerated Plus. Just a fun project with mixed results. And it's hilarious to hear all the system sounds, from Droplet to Monkey and Sosumi, at a higher pitch. Jeff -- Compact Macs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/>.
