Yo compacters everywhere,

The Appearance SDK and Drag+Drop SDK are in and still working well. The
problem now receiving my prime attention are the consistant repetitive DA
and application quits accompanied with a Type 1 error. I have ruled out the
suspect Drive Setup 8.1 driver as the issue after installing this software
load onto an Apple branded Quantum drive formatted with HDSD 7.3.5 which
demonstrated the exact same symptoms. So I went to work on each quit as a
separate problem with the following results:

The DA Art RoundUp immediately quits on launch every time. I discovered it
works perfectly well in 24 bit addressing. Is this unique to a Classic II,
System 7.1, or my setup here? This DA works for me on any Mac from a
Plus/System 6 to my Beige G3/OS 8.1 but quits in 32 bit memory on my
Classic II running System 7.1 here. Yes, on a Classic II running System
7.5.5/7.6.1, this DA runs just fine.

The DA Scrapbook 7.1 opens fine but quits when changing up or down one item
every time. Memory addressing has no effect. Swapping in a new Scrapbook
and Scrapbook File from other known good sources is the same. Scrapbook
itself has no preference file to toss. Scrapbook 7.5 will not work in
System 7.1. Scrapbook worked ok when the bare System 7.1 was installed. I
was deep into my enhancement program here when I discovered this quit
problem. Is there a Scrapbook 7.xx somewhere between 7.1 and 7.5 that might
work?

The game Shanghai 2.0 quits when selecting a new game after successfully
playing a first game every time. Again, while messing with 24 v 32 bit
memory addressing; I (re)discovered this game works ok in 24 bit
addressing, but doesn't work in 32. This is interesting because I learned
this on a Mac IIsi ages ago. Even more interesting because in other 030/040
Macs running OS 7.6.1, this game runs just fine. Even on an 040 running OS
8.1 it runs ok. But not on a Classic II running 7.1 in 32 bit addressing.

The game Hangman Plus 1.0 freezes when the second letter is selected. It
can be force quit every time. This was, in fact, a corrupt preference
file. I had failed to look for it where this very old games stores it in
the System Folder. A big "DOH!" to me on this one. I am looking for Hangman
3 to replace and upgrade this game.

Klondike 2.1, Checkers 1.0, MacMines 2.0.5, and TETRIS 1.3 complete with
sound files play just fine.

Thus, except for the Scrapbook 7.1 DA, these quittings with a Type 1 error
each seem tied to 24 v 32 bit addressing which I should have known.
Scrapbook is one I must solve as Scrapbook is a necessary (evil) of
teaching Macs to newbies.

The complexity of sorting out what does what in combination with what in
either 24 or 32 bit memory coupled with the gives and takes of the
Appearance set is becoming daunting. As 7.5 or 7.6 do it all, I am again
casting an eye in their direction even if they slow the Classic II.

And then, our Gamba <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> posted to this thread:

>I'm not sure that Appearance requires CFM-68K Runtime Enabler, it's just
>my >interpretation of the ReadMe.

Gamba was speaking of CFM-68K Runtime Enabler 4.0 in a Mac IIci, but, what
the hey, I downloaded and installed it along with ObjectSupportLib 1.2.
Nothing has changed for the better or worse in my Classic II here.
Scrapbook still crashes. DoubleScroll still does not work with the
Appearance set enabled. At least CFM doesn't seem to hurt anything. Is
there any reason to install this CFM set into a Classic II running System
7.1?

My lesser questions of the moment are:

1: Is any version of the Monitors control panel ever needed or even useful
in a Classic II? Somewhere I think I read...

2: Is there any way to create a functioning Shutdown Items folder in System
7.1?

3. Where do I find Hangman 3.0, the equivalent of Hangman 2000 purpose
built for us small screen black and white compact 030 Macs?

4. Is there an extension enabling Command + Delete to empty the trash?

Thanks guys.

Bill
