No, I don't think so. I turned everything off in my office, (except the lights of course) turned on the drive, stuck a pencil in the fan to make it stop, (it's very noisy) and could neither hear nor feel anything, (I put my finger on the hard drive to see if I could "feel" it moving or buzzing or something). So . . . as Martin Luther would say: "What does this mean?"
