Sometimes those Asante's will hang-up on the forward edge of the chassis slot. They didn't get it quite right when they designed the card for the IISi and made it just wee bit too wide for the SE/30. Other than that, the only thing that I can think of is a PRAM zap, or it's a bad Asante. btw, what are the numbers on the Asante's ROM chip?
